Sometimes just being in the right place at the right time works out.
I was actually in the car driving to Aldi.
John had the Mayville station on in our car, a station to which we do not normally listen, but it was all we could hear one day.
Well, on this rather "hokey" station, I heard an advertisement for the Dodge County Fair and I heard that REO Speedwagon would be playing the grandstand that night.
This brought up two thoughts.
First off, John really dislikes county and state fairs due to his living so close to the fairgrounds in West Allis, so would he even consider going.
Secondly, REO was one of his favorite bands in college and we danced many nights away at his TKE house to REO.
I was hoping the good memories of REO would overshadow the bad memories of State Fair and they did.
We headed over to the fairgrounds in Beaver Dam
Neither of us could even remember the last time we had been to this county fair.
I think I may have been there in high school and John may have never been there, not sure.
We paid $10.00 a piece to get into the fair,
No parking fees and no other hidden fees.
We did have to pay one dollar each to wear a wristband that enabled us to buy alcohol, but that was it.
Pretty cheap for a night of memories with REO.
We ate some fair food dinner, had a beer or two and looked at a lot of 4 H projects and animals.
There are many talented kids in our county for sure.
We had great seats in the grandstand for the REO performance.
The showmanship was great, the music and vocals were just as we remembered them on the albums we own.
Sometimes old man bands lose a lot as they age, but that did not happen to this band from Illinois.
They got even better with age.
I was thrilled to have them play my favorite song, "Like you Do."
It brought back many happy memories from those college days.
Entrance fee $20.00
wristbands $2.00
Food and Beers $20.00
A step back in time Priceless!

First, only the commercials are hokey on this station. Their transmitter is fantastic as the music sounds great. Second, the thought of disliking a "fair", surprisingly and for some reason, never entered my mind. And third, thanks for suggesting we go.
