John and I took a last hurrah to summer mini vacation this past weekend. We headed up to St. Ignace, Michigan. We visited St. Ignace on our first vacation as a married couple in 1977 when I was pregnant with Courtney, then again in 1989 with the girls in tow, and finally in 2001. We felt it was time to revisit this lovely place. We left early on Saturday and arrived in St. Ignace around 3:00. We immediately got on the boat for Mackinac Island. I had forgotten what a wonderful, quaint place the island is. A step back in time and a feeling like you are in a different world. We rented bikes and joined the many, many other tourists biking around the Island. We stopped at all of our favorite places and took the required photos. We bought the mandatory fudge and headed back to our motel in St. Ignace.
On Sunday we headed to Ludington via a beautiful scenic route. We checked into our motel and took a walking tour of the town. What a charming area. We were only two blocks from the lake. Courtney, Paul, and Tizita arrived from a visit with friends about 7:00. We ate pizza and then headed to a park right on the beach.
Today we boarded the S. S. Badger and took the four hour tour across Lake Michigan. It was a fun way to travel. John and I had fun exploring the boat withTizita. We arrived in Manitowac around noon and enjoyed a lunch and ice cream at their downtown ice cream parlor. What a great way to end a fabulous weekend get away!
The happy travelers on Mackinac Island.
On top of Arch Rock.
At the cannon, we take a photo here on every visit.
